Superlative Adjectives (A2)
Superlative adjectives compare one thing with the whole group, so it marks the highest degree. Always use the before a superlative. Often followed by in (place/group) or of (time/set).
Rules at a glance
Short (1 syllable): the + adj + -est
tall → the tallest, cold → the coldest
Ends in -e: the + adj + -st
nice → the nicest, large → the largest
CVC: double consonant + -est
big → the biggest, hot → the hottest
Consonant + y: the + adj(y→i) + -est

Long (2+ syllables): the most + adj
