Unlike regular verbs, irregular verbs do not add -ed in the past simple. Each verb has its own unique form, so you simply have to learn them. The good news: the same form is used for all persons (I, you, he, she, we, they).
* read keeps the same spelling, but the past tense is pronounced /rɛd/ (like the colour “red”).
